GVEA Scholarship Opportunities

Every year, GVEA awards eight scholarships for the academic year. Seven are awarded in April at our Annual Meeting, and the eighth is awarded in August. To be eligible for a GVEA scholarship, the applicant or member of the applicant's immediate family must be a member of Golden Valley Electric Association.

 

Academic and Continuing Education Scholarship applications will be available November 1.

 

Career & Technical Education Scholarship ($2,500)

This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to one student per year.  Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a recognized license, certificate, or an Associates Degree (2 years or less).  Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent education institution attended (high school or post-secondary).

Academic Degree Scholarship ($15,000)

This is a four-year scholarship and is only awarded to one student each year.  Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study, or distance education program in GVEA's service area that is accredited by the State of Alaska Department of Education.  Applicant must be pursuing a four-year Bachelor Degree at any University of Alaska campus and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5.

Academic Scholarship ($2,500)

This is nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year.  Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study, or distance education program in GVEA's service area that is accredited by the State of Alaska Department of Education.  Minimum GPA of 3.0 required.  Applicant must be pursuing a four-year Bachelor Degree at an accredited school.

Continuing Education Scholarship ($2000)

This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year.  Current year graduating high school seniors are not eligible for this scholarship.  Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a Bachelor or Master's Degree.  Applicant must have completed 12 or more credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
