There are twelve billing cycles a year. The length of an average billing cycle is 30 days, but this will vary depending on holidays, weekends and weather conditions. Your electric bill is due when rendered and will be considered past due if not paid within 25 days of the billing date and delinquent if not paid within 40 days.
For your convenience, a postage-paid envelope is provided with each billing statement that is mailed. Simply enclose the return portion of your statement with your check or money order (be sure to write your account number on it). Please do not send cash - GVEA cannot be responsible for loss of cash sent through the mail. Members may make advance payments on their account at any time during the month. You may wish to do this if you will be out of town when the next bill arrives. Members may also enroll in one of GVEA's Auto Pay options as explained below. You may pay your electric bill in person at any GVEA office between 8 am and 5 pm weekdays or use the deposit boxes located on our Member Services buildings in Fairbanks, Delta and Nenana anytime, day or night.
Now you can pay your electric bill automatically. Choose from three options:
For options 1 and 2, e-mail or call us for an application form. With options 1 and 2, we will still mail you a monthly statement at least ten days before the payment is processed. Learn more about option 3 at GV E-Bill. You'll never have to write or mail another check or miss another payment while out of town. Call 452-1151 and ask for Auto Pay for additional information.
When any amount has not been paid within 40 days of the original billing date, the account is considered delinquent and the account holder has 15 days to take action before disconnection. The first notice of disconnection appears on your statement when your account becomes past due.
If the account is not paid, GVEA will deliver a shut-off notice. (Mail is used when a service location is more than twenty-five miles from the office.) The first notice incurs a $5 fee. A second notice incurs a $32 fee.
GVEA may then disconnect without additional notice. Reconnection will not be made until all required amounts due have been paid, including any past due amounts, reconnection fee and applicable deposit. If special circumstances prevent prompt payment, please contact our Credit Office as soon as possible. Every reasonable effort will be made to arrange a payment schedule.
Nonnegotiable checks presented for payment will result in a $28 charge to the member, due to the additional processing required.
Every month we try to read each meter, but occasionally holidays, weather conditions, workload and inaccessible meters prevent us from doing so. On these occasions, your bill will be calculated using an estimated read based upon the length of the billing cycle, your previous month's usage and weather conditions. You will know your usage was estimated because the word ESTIMATED will appear printed in red on your statement.
We'll never say we're perfect, but we do strive to be as careful and as accurate as we can when it comes to your electric bill. If you receive an estimated bill, it is advisable to compare the estimated reading shown on your statement with the actual read on the meter. If it varies substantially, you may contact our Billing Office for an immediate adjustment. If you do not call, the adjustment occurs automatically on the next bill that is calculated using an actual read.
Use the Golden Valley Electric Bill Calculator to estimate your monthly bill. Simply fill in the number of items, and tab to the next item to see how much it will cost. Enter your number in the "Total kWh" entry box.
