Green Power Pledge

Golden Valley is acting on many of the initiatives addressed in the latest Green Power Advisory Committee 2006 Report to the Board of Directors. The report, submitted to the Board of Directors in March, provides an overview of current green power initiatives and lists recommendations for improving and meeting our environmental goals.

The Board responded to the recommendations by directing the GVEA President & CEO to pursue several of the initiatives, including:

Purpose

Originally formed in October 2003, the GPAC is currently made up of 15 community members. Golden Valley selected these members based on interest and expertise in alternative energy. GPAC members represent a cross-section of professions including technology, engineering, energy and the environment.

The committee's purpose is to investigate green power alternatives which may be viable for Interior Alaska and Golden Valley Electric Association. The GPAC works with GVEA's alternative energy team, which consists of Golden Valley employees.

GVEA's Green Power Pledge

The GPAC helped create the first Green Power Pledge in the state. The Pledge states that by the end of 2007, 10 percent of GVEA's peak load will come from renewable sources. This goal has been met, and will continue to be met while we work towards the next goal. By 2014, GVEA will supply 20 percent of peak load with renewable power. GVEA is well on its way to meeting this second goal.
