Scholarship Opportunities

GVEA awards eight (8) scholarships each year.  The first seven are awarded in May, and the eighth is awarded in August. 

To be eligible for any GVEA scholarship, the applicant (or member of the applicant's immediate family) must be a member of Golden Valley Electric Association and receive electric power from GVEA at his/her principal residence.

The application period for the CTE Scholarship is now open. (Reference deadline details below.) 

  • Career & Technical Education Scholarship ($2,500) ... 1 Scholarship Awarded
    • This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to one student per year.
    • Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading towards a recognized license, certificate or an Associate degree (2 years or less). 
    • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent education institution attended (high school or post-secondary).

**Note:  The application and reference forms can be completed online.  However, they must be printed and submitted (i.e. hand-delivered or postmarked) together with other required paperwork as a complete, hard-copy package.

 

Deadline to submit CTE Scholarship application packet:

  • If dropping off at a GVEA office, this will need to be done by 5pm, Friday, July 29, 2016    OR
  • If mailing, the postmark must reflect Saturday, July 30, 2016 (or earlier).

NOTE:  The 2016 application window has closed on the following three scholarship categories.  The Scholarship Committee met in April.  See the list of scholarship recipients below.

  • Academic Degree Scholarship ($15,000) ... 1 Scholarship Awarded

    This is a four-year scholarship and is only awarded to one student each year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study or distance education program within GVEA's service area. Applicant must be pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree at any University of Alaska campus and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5. 

  • Academic Scholarship ($2,500) ... 3 Scholarships Awarded

    This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study or distance education program within GVEA's service area. Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 required.  Applicant must be pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree at an accredited school.  

  • Continuing Education Scholarship ($2,000) ... 3 Scholarships Awarded

    This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year. Current year graduating high school seniors are not eligible for this scholarship. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a bachelor's or master's degree. Applicant must have completed 12 or more credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
