Fairbanks - Steel Creek area: There is currently an outage affecting 62 members. The outage was caused by a tree that fell on the line. The tree pulled down the line and the tree caught on fire. A crew is working on repairs, the extent of the damage is not known at this time. ![]()
The outage started at 10:22am and is expected to be restored by approximately 12pm.
On this day in 1997, GVEA rates decreased 7% due to the 1995 startup of the Fort Knox Gold Mine. In 1997, Fort Knox’s electric bill from GVEA was $1.1 million dollars a month, or $35,000 a day.
