In late February, the Good¢ents Board of Trustees reviewed 11 applications and awarded four grants totaling $29,364. Here is a breakdown of the awards:
- $15,000 to the Fairbanks Library Foundatio
n for a new automated equipment at the North Pole Branch library. The new system will streamline functions and lead to efficiencies in staffing at the borough library.
- $5,848 to the Tanana Valley Watershed Association for supplies and equipment to furnish their Rain to Rivers Resource Center in the Lathrop Bldg. – a multi-use classroom which will be used for environmental education and research.
- $5,000 to University of Alaska Fairbanks/UA Foundation for student scholarships to attend the Alaska Summer Research Academy. The ASRA promotes creativity and intellectual curiosity in grades 6-12 students through hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
- $3,516 to the Fairbanks Children’s Museum. The funds will be used to purchase new computers for staff use.
All money from the Good¢ents foundation is awarded locally to nonprofit organizations and individuals in need.
Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees. The next application deadline is April 30. Applications and more information about the program can be found online at gvea.com/goodcents.
Good¢ents is funded by the members of Golden Valley Electric Association. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have granted nearly $293,000 to local nonprofits and individuals in need.
