Following the resignation of Bill Nordmark, Golden Valley Electric Association’s (GVEA) Board of Directors will be filling the vacant District 7 board seat. The process begins with the recruitment of interested members whose membership account is in District 7.
District 7 runs along the Parks Highway from mile 330, near Skinny’s Halfway Inn, to mile 210 at Cantwell. A map of District 7 is available on the GVEA website, at this link.
GVEA’s service area is divided into seven geographic districts, with one director elected from each district. Members elect directors to three-year terms. Elections take place annually between May and June with no more than three directors elected in any year.
“Members in Districts 4 and 7 will vote for their respective board representative next spring, but seating of those directors will not take place until late June,” explained GVEA Board Chair Tom DeLong. “That is too long to go without representation for District 7. Following GVEA Bylaws, the board will recruit and then appoint a new District 7 director this fall to complete the remainder of Nordmark’s term.”
“Directors are responsible for representing our member-owners as they manage GVEA. This is a multimillion dollar business with assets of nearly $745 million and an annual operating revenue exceeding $240 million,” said DeLong. “Serving on GVEA’s board is a commitment to your community. A dedicated director can expect to spend the equivalent of at least 40 days a year on GVEA business.”
Nordmark resigned in July after serving District 7 for 25 years. His last meeting will be Aug. 24.
Members of District 7 who are interested in applying should contact Susan Redlin at (907) 458-5721 or SKRedlin@gvea.com for an application packet.
