Good¢ents Grants Awarded in February 2021

The Good¢ents Board of Trustees met on February 23, 2021. 5 applications were reviewed and 3 grants totaling $31,500 were awarded. Here’s a summary of these recent grants:

Midnight Sun Council, Boy Scouts: $15,000 to purchase a new truck for the camp’s operations, maintenance, and security.

Alaska State Firefighters Association: $8,000 for the purchase of a 16’ enclosed trailer to be used for traveling to Interior Alaska fire departments to conduct trainings. AFSA is committed to serving the local community and a main pillar of their mission is to support training efforts to increase knowledge, skills, and abilities among the eleven local fire departments.

Green Star of Interior Alaska: $8,500 to purchase components necessary for the refurbishment and distribution of laptops for local Interior Communities. Throughout the pandemic, Green Star donated laptops to the FNSB School District, Fairbanks Rescue Mission, Interior Alaska Center For Non-Violent Living, J.P. Jones Center, Fairbanks Resource Agency, Fairbanks Reentry Coalition, and many others.

All grants from the Good¢ents Foundation are awarded to nonprofit organizations within GVEA’s service area. Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees. The next application deadline is July 31, 2021. Applications and more information about the program can be found on our Good¢ents Program page.

Good¢ents is funded by the generous members of Golden Valley Electric Association. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have funded grants totaling $1,222,353.76.

Thank you to all of the members who voluntarily “round up” their monthly billing statement to the next dollar. The cents you contribute is greatly appreciated and really makes a difference within the communities GVEA serves.
