Voting Now Open for GVEA Board of Directors Election in District 6

Voting for the Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) board of directors is now open for members living in GVEA District 6. District 6 includes Delta Junction, Fort Greely and all areas south of the Salcha River, including Harding and Birch Lakes.

Election packets were mailed last week to all members in District 6, and e-voting is now open. Ballots must be returned and e-votes submitted by 5 p.m., June 7, 2022. The election results will be shared publicly June 9, 2022.

The District 6 candidates up for election are Peter Hallgren and Eileen Williams, both nominated by committee, and Fred Sheen who is nominated by petition.

You can learn more about these candidates by visiting our Elections page.

Originally, District 5 and 6 were both up for election this year. However, with one candidate running unopposed in District 5, the District 5 election was canceled. Per GVEA Policy, “[f]or the financial best interest of GVEA and its membership, if the deadlines have passed for nominations, by committee and petition, and there is only one qualified candidate seeking election, no election will be held provided that the board appoints that candidate pursuant to GVEA’s Bylaws….”

Consistent with this policy and in an effort to avoid wasting member money on an election where only one candidate would appear on the ballot, the board reappointed Chris Bunch, as District 5 Director. Chris’ appointment will be effective June 28, 2022, the date the election results for District 5 would have been certified had Chris Bunch appeared on the ballot.
