The Goodcents Board of Trustees met on August 15 and awarded 7 grants totaling $29,150.
All grants from the Good¢ents Foundation are awarded to nonprofit organizations within Golden Valley Electric Association's (GVEA) service territory. Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees.
The next application deadline is October 31, 2023. Applications and more information about the program can be found online on the Good Cents page. Goodcents is funded by members of Golden Valley Electric Association who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bill. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have funded grants totaling $1,598,651.44.

Here’s a summary of the recent grants:
- Blood Bank of Alaska: $6,000 toward the cost of a new, medically approved, 2-door blood storage refrigerator. Replacement is necessary due to the advanced age of the Blood Bank’s current equipment. The refrigerator will store blood and blood products for Fairbanks and surrounding communities and will ensure a robust response in the event of an emergency.
- Delta Junction Trails Association: $1,750 to support the completion of River Walk Park trails in Delta Junction. These beautiful new trails are now available for public use. Learn more at Delta Junction's website.
- Green Star of Interior Alaska: $1,200 to buy new recycle bin lids and signage. Green Star of Alaska encourages and enables residents of Interior Alaska to reduce waste and increase recycling.
- Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living (IACNVL): $10,000 to update the fire alarm system at its Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) 8-plex apartment building. PSH provides individuals a chance to live independently while still having access to supportive services. IACNVL provides more than 20,000 nights of safe shelter to Interior Alaskans each year.
- Nenana Tortella Council on Aging (NTCA): $5,000 to provide food vouchers to Nenana residents experiencing food insecurity. NTCA provides nutrition, transportation and support services to elderly and disabled members of the community of Nenana and surrounding areas. Its services enable many people to live independently for longer periods of time, allowing elders to “age in place.”
- North Star Imagination Library: $4,000 to buy books for preschool-aged children in Interior Alaska. Good¢ents has helped the organization’s mission to support literacy with multiple grants over the years, providing more than 28,000 free, age-appropriate books to children.
- Railbelt Mental Health & Addictions (RMHA): $1,200 for their community food and toiletry pantry located in Nenana. RMHA’s mission is to provide education, support, outpatient services and continuing care programs for individuals with substance use disorder, mental health or co-occurring issues through community, group and individual contact and referral.
