GVEA Team Earns Award for Safety Improvement Program

All GVEA employees are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe workplace culture, but this group of individuals from the Operations
and Safety teams were especially involved in the cooperative’s efforts that led to this award from the Alaska Power Association.

Golden Valley Electric Association’s Operations and Safety crew received the 2023 Alaska Power Association (APA) Commitment to Continuous Safety Improvement Award.

APA’s members know that safety is important not only within the electric utility but for everyone who works or interacts with the utility. GVEA’s safety department recognized the opportunity and challenge to provide meaningful and impactful safety training within the Alaska electric utility industry. They worked with Brady Hansen, the founder of Written in Red, and co-op management to structure costs and facilities in a manner that would provide affordable, world-class safety training for Interior Alaska’s electric utility professionals.

GVEA extended invitations to line contractors, the Fairbanks IBEW apprenticeship program and Doyon Utilities. By offering the training to other electric utility workers outside the co-op, GVEA exemplifies what the APA safety award is all about.
