Applications are now available for $39,000 worth of scholarships from Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA). 8 academic scholarships will be awarded in April 2023.

To be eligible for a GVEA scholarship, the applicant or someone in the applicants’ immediate family must be a member of GVEA.

Scholarships:

Academic Degree ($16,000)

This is a 4-year scholarship awarded to only one student each year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study, or distance education program in GVEA’s service area. Applicant must be pursuing a 4-year bachelor degree at any University of Alaska campus and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5.

Academic ($3,500)

This nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded to 3 students. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study or distance education program in GVEA’s service area. Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 required. Applicant must be pursuing a 4-year bachelor degree at an accredited school.

Continuing Education ($3,000)

This nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded to 3 students. Current year graduating high school seniors are not eligible. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a bachelor or master’s degree. Applicant must have competed 12 or more credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Career & Technical Education ($3,500)

This scholarship is for students considering a career in a health, industrial or technical field such as cosmetology, dental hygiene, diesel/ heavy equipment operation or auto mechanics. This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to 1 student. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or fulltime student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a recognized license, certificate, or an associates degree. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent educational institution attended (high school or post-secondary).
