Apply for an Academic Scholarship from the Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA)
Applications are now available for $39,000 worth of scholarships from Golden Valley Electric Association. Eight academic scholarships will be awarded in April 2024.
To be eligible for a GVEA scholarship, the applicant or someone in the applicant’s immediate family must be a member of GVEA.

Scholarships
Academic Degree ($16,000)
This is a 4-year scholarship awarded to only 1 student each year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study, or distance education program in GVEA’s service area. Applicant must be pursuing a 4-year bachelor’s degree at any University of Alaska campus and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5.
Academic ($3,500)
This nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded to three students. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study, or distance education program in GVEA’s service area. A minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 is required. Applicant must be pursuing a 4-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited school.
Continuing Education ($3,000)
This nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded to three students. Current-year graduating high school seniors are not eligible. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least six credit hours per semester or four hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Applicant must have completed 12 or more credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
Career & Technical Education ($3,500)
This scholarship is for students considering a career in a health, industrial, or technical field such as cosmetology, dental hygiene, diesel/ heavy equipment operation, or auto mechanics. This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to one student. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least six credit hours per semester of four hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a recognized license, certificate, or associate degree. Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent educational institution attended (high school or post-secondary).
